Moora Historical Society

From military to medical – Moora’s post-colonial history captured in a series of varied displays.

The enthusiastic team of volunteers at Moora Districts Historical Society has built a vast repository of information and artefacts about the region’s local history at Moora Museum. One whole building is dedicated to military history, much of it based on Moora’s role as an army camp during WWII, when some 30,000 soldiers were stationed here over five to six years. Another area focuses on transport and the role the Midland Railway had in opening the region, while, still another is dedicated to medical history, with some rather alarming medical tools – be sure to check out the ‘birthing table’… There is still more to see with one room crammed with tools and engines, while others display children’s toys, a recreated school room, and a kitchen.

Moora Historical Society holds its meetings on the third Wednesday in the month at the Moora Museum at 3.00 pm.
